We
have all enjoyed our friend's well-trained Lab or thought wow, their
Lab is out of control. In both cases, training or lack of played
a big part in whether we wanted to be around that Lab for any length
of time. Lab owners must provide consistent structured training in
order to have a Lab they can live with and be a part of the family.
Going to obedience school is a MUST no matter how old your Lab is.
The best way to teach YOU and YOUR LAB the skills needed to co-exist
happily is to find a good recommended obedience school in your area.
Even the most seasoned Lab owners go to obedience school when they
get a new Lab in their home as they know the guidance, support and
socialization they receive at obedience school is their best investment.
LRR,
Inc. does not get into their adoption program two year old obedience
trained yellow females. The great majority of our Labs are 2-6
year old untrained, (black, yellow, chocolate) males and females with
an excellent Lab temperament. They are kind, loving and eager to please,
however no one has provided much training or socialization along the
way. Our adopting families are special in that they understand
these needs and are eager and capable of giving a Rescue Lab the chance
to grow into a fine family member. Training is an investment for a
good future together.
The
Association of Pet Dog trainers (APDT) will provide a listing to you
in zip code order to assist in finding a trainer in your area. The
Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) or Labrador Retriever Rescue,
Inc. neither endorses nor recommends any of the trainers listed. It
is the responsibility of the Lab owner to interview and research the
trainers. Ask your vet's office or fellow dog owners where they would
recommend, you will usually start to hear the same trainers being
recommended.
Obedience
training will help bond you and your Lab.
